Skateboard Information
Here we have some skateboard information on yer actual skateboard, including all you need to know on them. Here are a few facts guys and gals, dudes and dudesses:
The skateboard deck, that is the flat surface of the skateboard, is normally made out of laminated maple. How thick the skateboard is depends on the number of layers that the deck is made out of. The less experienced skateboarder should be more inclined to pick a thick skateboard for ease of balance.
For your skateboard information, the wheels are more often than not made out of polyurethane, and can be sized between 39 to 66 millimetres in diameter.
The front of the skateboard is called the nose, which comprises of the front truck bolts to the end of the board.
The back of the skateboard is called the tail, which comprises of the back truck bolts back to the end of the board.
The wheelbase is basically the distance between the front and the back wheels.
Most skateboards come with grip tape on them, or skateboarders put tape on them when they buy their board. The grip tape is stuck to the deck, and has an abrasive surface to give the skateboarder plenty grip to the board, so that they will not slip off so readily.
So theres some skateboard information for your delectation. It is not that important that you know this information, the main thing is being able to skate on the thing! But it gives you a feel for your board and what you are dealing with, and ya know what they say, knowledge is power.
If you want information on skateboarding, including tips, tricks, facts, history, gear, boards, safety etc, then there is a great resource at SkatePlanet

Learning how to Fall can help Prevent Serious Skateboarding Related Injuries
You may think that staying on your skateboard is what your goal is but that isn't the case at all. You need to be ready to fall in the beginning. Too many people are afraid to fall and that prevents them from being able to learn very much. You can get the feel of things when you learn how to fall. Then you can start to do better and you will find that you fall less and less.
At the same time, learning how to fall can help to prevent serious skateboarding related injuries. Landing the wrong way can result in broken bones, a concussion, or other serious injuries. You want to avoid them at all costs so pay attention to these great tips to help you learn how to fall.
When you are losing your balance on a skateboard, the feeling of panic can set it. As a result you may be moving your arms and your legs rapidly to regain control. Yet this is only going to help you fall faster in most instances. Crouch your body down and get ready for it when you start to feel like you are falling. The lower you can get your body to the ground, the less distance you have to fall. This is going to reduce the overall impact of it.
Do your best to land on parts of your body that have lots of flesh. This means you need to tuck in your elbows and your head. It is going to hurt less if you land on your stomach or your butt. This is going to take some practice so that is why you still need to make sure you have on a helmet, knee guards, and elbow guards. It isn't a bad idea to consider a cup if you are a guy and also a mouth piece to protect your teeth.
It's a good idea to roll when they fall, even in the movies. This is one of the best ways to do it. This is because it allows the force to be absorbed by various parts of the body instead of just one. Sure, you may get a bit dizzy but it is going to pass quickly if it is from rolling instead of from smacking your forehead on the cement.
Don't allow your body to get tense either when you are going to fall. There is a higher risk of injuries when you are tensed up like that. Instead you need to tell yourself to relax. This way, your muscles will be less likely to clench up. A relaxed person is going to fair much better after a fall than someone completely tightened up.
When you know how to fall, you won't fear it like you did before. That means you can concentrate your attention of learning moves and tricks. You will find that as you do so your confidence increases. Then you will be staying on the skateboard more and falling less and less. It can also give you the motivation to continue learning this sport instead of giving up early on.
Even those that have been skateboarding for a very long time will still fall now and then. Why are they able to get right back up and keep going? First, it is often due to the fact that they do wear the right equipment. They put safety first and everything else second. Then they also have learned how to fall so that they can minimize the damage that is done when it does occur.

Electric Skateboard - The Next Generation of Alternative Transportation?
Two years ago I saw something on the net that totally changed my life!
A video about electric skateboards. Since then I have had at least 3 different boards, which is as much a tribute to how much I love these babies. But unfortunately as it is to their biggest weakness, they break easily. But I still keep purchasing new ones or buying parts for the old ones.
"The electric skateboard was invented by Californian Louis Finkle. Louis made the first analogue electric skateboard in 1993. It then took seven years to make it to production, and thirteen years later it has yet to reach the tipping point where we currently stand on the verge of mass popularity of electric skateboards".
So what is so great about a electric skateboard?
They're extremely fast. We are talking 20-25 mph and more. Beware!!!
Besides being fast, it's incredible FUN!!!
Instead of taking a car for short trips, I now glide my way to the newspaper stand and back.
It feels like you are flying extremely low. When you zoom around you tend to look forward (obviously), meaning you never see your feet. It somehow feels like your gliding 6 inches off the pavement.
The range is also quite decent. The furthest I got was a 14 mile ride. After wards the battery needed a full charge up.
You control the board with a pistol grip controller that controls the acceleration and regenerative braking. It is pretty easy to ride a electric skateboard even if you have never ridden a skateboard before. If you ask me, it is a lot easier than a regular skateboard as you always have both feet on the deck.
The only drawbacks of the electric skateboard are that they break fairly easily and go slowly up hills. The brand I recommend, E-Glide, has a good warranty. 90 day warranty on the board and electronics. 6 month battery warranty.
There are 2 companies who make these boards: Altered, formerly known as Exkate, and E-Glide. Altered boards have a cool wireless controller, but the boards are made in China and the customer support is not the best.
E-Glide, on the other hand are very dedicated and care what they are selling. They concentrate on only using top of the range components to build their electric skateboards. Furthermore they are the only electric skateboard company who doesn't import premade powerboards from China.
I personally ride the E-Glide "44 Magnum" a Madrid board designed by Crossbow USA. Lots of concave, and beautiful lines. At 44 inches in length, it is a Ferrari among electric skateboards.
Until someone invents the Hoverboard, these babies are it!!!

Tricks on Skateboards
OK, tricks on skateboards, let us look at how to do an ollie while moving, as opposed to doing an ollie while stationary----obviously!!
So your front foot should be around about in the middle of the board, and your back foot on the tail of your board. You push off with your back foot and then put your back foot on the tail, and push down on the tail with your back foot so the front pops up, and you slide your front foot forward, wait for the skateboard to even out in the air, and then you can drop the skateboard back down. The toes of your front foot should be over the front bolts when you are doing this, so that you can control the skateboard with that front foot.
You basically control the overall movement of the board with that front foot of yours, and to do that when you are pressing down on the board when you are bringing the board back down, you need to bend your knee forward, and also your body slightly forward, so that your weight is bearing down on the front of the board.
The more you practice the better you will get at this, just like any other tricks on skateboards. The better you get, the more momentum you can carry into the moving ollie by pushing off harder, and then you can press harder onto the tail and get a higher jump on your skateboard.
It is not much harder than a stationary ollie, but you must take a little more care with your balance. Get your technique right, make sure your stance and positioning are perfect when you attempt this, and you will find it a whole lot easier. Tricks on skateboards are always great fun, and as the ollie is the basis for many, many tricks, if you perfect this you will be really up and running.

Tricks For Skateboard - Super Cool Skateboard Tricks That You Can Learn Fast!
I have compiled a list of my favourite skateboard tricks, that are not too difficult to do but look really cool when you pull them off:
1.) The Ollie
This trick is a staple of the skateboarding world and is also one of the simplest to learn. First, you need to bend down and then jump up from the board, snapping the tail down against the ground so that it pops up in the air. At the top of the Ollie, slide your front foot forward so that the board will level out when you land.
2.) The Kickflip
This is one of those tricks for skateboard that is based on the Ollie moves. To do it, start off doing an Ollie but kick the skateboard so that it spins underneath you when in mid-air. The board should spin a full 360 degrees so that everything lands in exactly the same position as you started and you can then continue riding forward. Takes a bit of practice, but it looks cool.
3.) The bomb drop
This one sounds exciting, and that's because it is (it's my fave!). You perform the bomb drop when boarding down stairs. You need to first jump whilst catching the board in your hands and bring it up against your feet when in mid-air, then land safely and continue the ride. Tip - start on small sets of stairs until you get good at it!
4.) The firecracker
This one is wicked! When boarding down stairs, all you need to do for the firecracker is shift your weight onto your back foot so that the front of the skateboard tilts up into the air. This brings the tail down and will hit every step on the way down making a cracking noise as it hits each one. This is one of those tricks for skateboard that looks and sounds the best the faster you are going.

The International Society of Skateboarding Moms by John Pauls
Many other moms though are actually taking part in the sport of skateboarding themselves too. It doesn't get much cooler than that now does it? This is the concept through which the International Society of Skateboarding Moms was born. These women come from all walks of life. Some of them are stay at home moms and others are professionals with careers.
The youngest member of the International Society of Skateboarding moms right now is 25 years of age. The oldest one is 80 years of age with her children all grown up. However, that doesn't mean her passion for the sport isn't still there. In fact, she says she now has the actual time to get out there and skate. In the past she had work and responsibilities at home that often consumed her time.
We all know too well though that moms can become stressed out if it is all work and no play in their lives. Skateboarding offers a great way to get out there and enjoy a great activity with their children. Many of these moms have only boys and they felt out of sync with them until they took up the sport themselves. By having some fun they find they are better able to tackle the daily responsibilities that come their way.
What do kids that skateboard have to say about their moms doing it as well? Some admit that they were initially embarrassed by the idea. However, the majority of them will tell you that it is really cool. They love being able to share information with their mom about it, try new tricks, and even cheer her on when she takes part in competitions.
There is another spin to this story as well though. For many of these skating moms, they were part of the era in the 1970's when it first took off. They had their fun in the sun around California as they were skateboarding. However, as time went by they had children and other responsibilities. Now they are at a point in their lives when they want to take up the sport again.
For other moms though it is about doing something that is outside of their stereotype. They enjoy the time they spend with their children skating and love the exercise that they get from it. While they do have their share of bruises and falls, they also have smiles on their faces as they are out there. Many of them are taking part in this event each Mothers Day too as a way to do what they really want on their special day of the year.
If you are interested in being a part of the International Society of Skateboarding Moms, you can go online and find out more about them. They have members from every place in the world. This organization continues to grow at a very rapid pace. If you have felt that you were alone in your passion as a mom for skating, this is your place to network and to get support. You can make some wonderful friends, ask questions, and even offer advice to other moms that need it from time to time.
